CIBOD

CIDOB, the Barcelona Centre for International Affairs, is Spain’s oldest international relations think tank. Since 1973 CIDOB has been an important reference in information and policy-oriented research in international issues. CIDOB is an independent, non-partisan centre funded by a variety of local, national, and international public and private actors. CIDOB has implemented its applied research in several EU-funded projects, participating in FP7 projects like INEX, and coordinating some others like EU4SEAS, ATLANTIC FUTURE, and SAHWA. CIDOB coordinates as well the Migration Integration Policy Index (MIPEX) update and is a partner in the European Parliament’s Framework Contract Research network to provide foreign policy expertise in Security and Defence. CIDOB’s areas of expertise relevant to this project are: European Foreign Policy, Mediterranean Area, Eastern Europe, Migrations, and Security. Turkey stands out as a key country in CIDOB’s Strategic plan for 2014–2017.

Eduard Soler i Lecha
Eduard Soler i Lecha
Eduard Soler i Lecha is a Senior Research Fellow and Research Coordinator at CIDOB. He has a Ph.D. in International Relations from the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona and is a part-time lecturer in International Relations at the Institut Barcelona d’Estudis Internacionals and at Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona. In 2010 he was seconded to the Spanish Ministry of Foreign Affairs as advisor in the Direction General for the Mediterranean, Maghreb, and Middle East. He has participated in several FP7 research projects such as FORNET, INEX, EU4SEAS, and SAHWA. He collaborates regularly with media. His main areas of expertise relevant to the project are Turkey–EU relations and Euro-Mediterranean relations.

Eckart Woertz
Eckart Woertz
Eckart Woertz is senior research fellow at CIDOB, the Barcelona Centre for International Affairs and scientific advisor to the Kuwait Chair at Sciences Po in Paris. Formerly he was a visiting fellow at Princeton University, director of economic studies at the Gulf Research Center in Dubai and worked for banks in Germany and the United Arab Emirates. He teaches at the Barcelona Institute of International Studies (IBEI) and was KSP visiting professor at the Paris School of International Affairs (PSIA) at SciencesPo. He is author of Oil for Food (Oxford University Press 2013), editor of GCC Financial Markets (Gerlach Press 2012) and has published numerous journal articles on development issues in the Middle East. He is on the editorial boards of Food Security and the Journal of Arabian Studies and holds a PhD in economics from Friedrich-Alexander University, Erlangen-Nuremberg.
Pol Morillas
Pol Morillas
Pol Morillas is a Research Fellow and Coordinator of the European Programme at CIDOB. He holds a degree in Political science and a Masters in International Relations from the London School of Economics. He is an Associate Professor at the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona and the Universitat Blanquerna, where he teaches European Foreign Policy and International Relations Theory. He was formerly the Head of Euro-Mediterranean Policy at the European Institute of the Mediterranean, coordinator of the Political and Security Committee of the Council of the European Union, Foreign Policy Advisor to the European Parliament, and analyst at the Cabinet of the President of CIDOB. His main areas of expertise relevant to the project are European Foreign Policy and Security.
Jordi Quero Arias
Jordi Quero Arias
Jordi Quero Arias is an Associate Researcher at CIDOB. He is also a Lecturer at the Department of International Law and International Relations at Universitat Pompeu Fabra and a Professor at Centro de Estudios Internacionales and at Institut Barcelona d’Estudis Internacionals, where he teaches on a course on International Relations of the Middle East. He holds a B.Sc. in Political Science from UPF, an M.Sc. in History of International Relations from the London School of Economics, and a Master’s in International Affairs, specialization on Middle East Studies, from Columbia University. He is working on his Ph.D. thesis on the impact of the balance of power theory over the regional order of the Middle East after the decolonization period. His main areas of expertise relevant to the project are International Relations of the Middle East, Political Islam, and International Security and Defence Policy.
Oriol Farrés
Oriol Farrés
Oriol Farrés is a Project Manager at CIDOB with a focus on Infography. Graduate in Political Science, specializing in International Relations from Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona, he holds a Degree on Information Visualization from Universitat Pompeu Fabra. Editor and coordinator of the Asia Pacific Yearbook between 2004–2011, he is currently part the Atlantic Future team (FP7 Project), where he designed and coordinated the implementation of the Data Management Plan and is contributing to the creation of an Interactive Atlas of the Atlantic. In recent years, he has published maps and infographics in most of CIDOB’s publications, including CIDOB International Yearbook, which he co-coordinates. He has taught Asian Political Systems at Universitat Oberta de Catalunya.
