“In order to discuss migration in the context of Europe and Mediterranean it is essential to take a step back in history: to a period where the current situation has its roots. And that is back in the ’90, when Europe started to erect a series of barriers to mobility across the Mediterranean: visa started to be required, border control started to be enhanced and mobility from across the Mediterranean became more and more difficult”, argues Ferruccio Pastore, director of Fieri (Turin).
